James L. Brown

James L. Brown - Project Engineer

Mr. Brown has over 10 years of civil and geotechnical engineering experience in Florida that spans all phases of project implementation including proposal preparation, cost estimating, subcontractor selection, and project management. Mr. Brown worked part-time for MEC as a college student and since coming to MEC full-time in 2019, his focus has been performing damage assessments of commercial and residential structures caused by wind, storms, fires, plumbing leaks, and assessing water infiltration of building envelopes.

Mr. Brown obtained both a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. After graduation, he was employed for 6 years with Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. (Wood), an international engineering firm. During this time, he was involved in a variety of projects including geotechnical and materials testing services on a task work order basis, geotechnical foundation verification services, quality assurance testing services during construction, vibration monitoring services, and private commercial land development.

His experience at Wood included technical analyses of geotechnical conditions and development of custom maintenance of traffic plans. His field work includes deep foundation load testing (static and dynamic), Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) monitoring, augercast-in-place pile installation inspection, drilled shaft installation inspection, seepage cut-off wall inspection, SPT borings, CPT soundings, dilatometer testing, dynamic cone penetrometer, various site drainage/hydraulic conductivity testing methods, and seismograph monitoring.

Since joining MEC full-time, Mr. Brown has obtained certification as a HAAG Certified Inspector for Residential and Commercial Roofs and has attended various seminars/conferences associated with performing damage assessments. Mr. Brown is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Florida (since 2017) and Louisiana (since 2023).
